StepUp Sidekick Learning Towers Recall Class Action Lawsuit
On September 2, 2021, Step 2 issued a recall for their StepUp Sidekick Learning Towers. According to the recall, number 21-778, the storage tray with cup holders and step can come loose from the tower, posing a fall risk to the child using the product. The recall affected about 1,570 units of the product.
The recall specifically involves the Step2-brand StepUp Sidekick Learning Tower for children. The tower is designed to be used as both a helper stool and as a chair. It has a white plastic exterior and a gray tray with two cup holders, a seat, and a step. The products affected by the recall have the following manufacture codes: 10-2020, 3-2021, and 5-2021. The manufacture codes can be found on the removable seat or step. On the bottom of the tower, model number “41343” can be found.
The recalled learning towers were sold online via Amazon.com and Step2.com during May 2021 for about $100 each.
As of the recall, there had been approximately 20 reports of the storage trays or steps coming loose from the tower; one of these reports included a child falling and sustaining minor bruises. However, since time has passed since the initial recall, it is likely that there have been more incidents.
Affected consumers are urged to stop using the recalled product and contact the company for information on getting either a full refund or a credit depending on where the product was purchased.
